The Modern Olympics: 1896 & 2004

The winner received a silver medal and an olive branch. The runner-up got a copper medal and a laurel branch. The poor old third place getter got nothing at all.



We're all used to things the way they happened in 2004. The winner got a gold medal, the runner-up got a silver medal, and the third prize was a bronze medal. But this time, the winners also got an olive wreath, which is a bit like a headband made out of an olive branch.
